abstract = "This study presents a technique to estimate rainfall combining the
GOES-8 infrared images and rain rates from a Doppler weather radar
of Bauru, located in the central part of S{\~a}o Paulo state,
Brazil. According to this method, GOES-8 data are are
statistically adjusted with coincident radar data (area coverage
of the Bauru radar, S. Paulo state). Then the resulted regression
coefficients are used to estimate rain rates for the whole
satellite image even when only satellite data is available. Twenty
different meteorological conditions were selected to test the
method. The preliminary results show that the proposed technique
discriminates very well the rain areas and could be useful for
many meteorological applications.",
